Romeo & Juliet | The Joffrey Ballet

The Joffrey is a world-class, Chicago-based ballet company and dance education organization committed to artistic excellence and innovation, presenting a unique repertoire encompassing masterpieces of the past and cutting-edge works.

The Joyce Theater Foundation is thrilled to bring The Joffrey Ballet to New York to perform Krzysztof Pastor’s magnificent re-mounting of his 2008 production of Romeo & Juliet, which had its U.S. premiere in Chicago with the Joffrey in spring 2014. Set in 20th century Italian society, this updated version of the classic story is especially relevant for contemporary audiences as it goes beyond an exploration of family strife to position Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers against a backdrop of complicated politics and war.  Propelled by Sergei Prokofiev's lushly dramatic 1935 score - accompanied by the Joffrey Ballet Orchestra: Members of the Chicago Philharmonic - Pastor’s classical yet contemporary ballet version of Romeo & Juliet, while without words, “might just be the most eloquent, rapturous, emotionally searing ‘translation’ of the story you will ever see.” – The Chicago Sun-Times

The Joyce gala evening will take place on Thursday, March 30.  It will offer the chance to see this revered company perform Body of Your Dreams by Myles Thatcher, Fool’s Paradise by Christopher Wheeldon, and Bells by Yuri Possokhov.

Contact Scott Young at 646-278-0442 or syoung@joyce.org to purchase gala tickets, which includes dinner and program on the promenade following the performance.

Major support for The Joyce’s presenting initiative at Lincoln Center provided by the Ford Foundation, the Howard Gilman Foundation, and The Pasculano Foundation.
