Alexei Ratmansky World Premiere

Choreography by Alexei Ratmansky  |  Music by Leonid Desyatnikov

The World Premiere work by Ratmansky will be set to new music, Bukovinian Songs (24 Preludes for Piano) by Leonid Desyatnikov performed live by guest soloist Alexey Goribol. The October 18 performance will also mark the World Premiere of Desyatnikov’s composition. A work for 12 dancers, the ballet will be given five performances during the Fall season.

Symphonic Variations

Choreography by Frederick Ashton  |  Music by César Franck

Acclaimed as one of Ashton’s finest works, Symphonic Variations is a radiant classical showpiece for its six dancers, full of flowing lines and gleaming footwork. It is one of the great challenges of the ballet repertory, needing soft grace in demanding steps, as dancers coalesce in quartets, duets, sextets and solos but always with a sense of serenity, grandeur and spirituality, perfectly reflecting Franck's masterful score for piano and orchestra

Choreography by Jerome Robbins  |  Music by Frédéric Chopin

Set to a waltz and four mazurkas by Frédéric Chopin, the plotless classical character pas de deux was created by Robbins for a Gala evening for the Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Centcer at the Metropolitan Opera House on May 9, 1976. First performed by Natalia Makarova and Mikhail Baryshnikov, it was staged for American Ballet Theatre by Isabel Guerin. Other Dances will receive five performances during the season.

Serenade after Plato's Symposium

Choreography by Alexei Ratmansky  |  Music by Leonard Bernstein

This ballet is an abstract exploration of some of the themes that Plato investigated within his Symposium. In Plato's original text, a group of men convene and deliver speeches on the topic of love, with each man bringing a unique perspective to the proceedings. They explore how love can help the soul to understand truth in the pursuit of wisdom and beauty.
