Souvenir d’un lieu cher

Choreography by Alexei Ratmansky  |  Music by Peter Ilytich Tchaikovsky

It consists of three movements, Meditation, Scherzo and Melodie. The Dutch National Ballet premiered this piece in their 2011-2012 season, as a part of the anniversary programme Present/s. At its premiere it was received with unanimous praise. In 2012, The Financial Times praised "With Souvenir d'un lieu cher, Ratmansky has given Dutch National Ballet a miniature jewel for two couples, so ripe with emotion it seems to compress several novels into 14 minutes... the rich, lush texture and sinuous expressivity of the choreography matched Tchaikovsky's concerto every step of the way."

Daphnis and Chloe

Choreography by Benjamin Millepied  |  Music by Maurice Ravel

One of the seminal masterworks of French music, Ravel’s shimmering score paints a musical fresco for the pastoral tale of the young shepherd Daphnis’ love for the wood nymph, Chloe. In a wonderful suspension between abstraction and narrative, Benjamin Millepied’s ability to create ever-shifting patterns is on dazzling display with a balletic language echoing the frieze-like figures of a Greek vase, captivatingly complemented by a production design of color-infused geometric forms in perpetual movement. This is a unity of music, dance and art at its harmonious best.
