Bold Visions

New Moultrie (World Premiere)

The lasting impact of a teacher’s influence on a young child is at the heart of this world premiere by Darrell Grand Moultrie, who The New York Times has called “someone to watch” for his “playful wit and uncommon skill.” Using 12 dancers and an original score, Moultrie reflects on the legacies that we’re all a part of and the universal journey that each person takes to find – and share – their passion.

The Call (World Premiere)

Drawing on themes of spiritual awakening and redemption, Ronald K. Brown’s newest work joyously mixes modern and West African movements in “a beauty of a dance [that] speaks to the spirit of Ailey" (The New York Times).

Shelter

Jawole Willa Jo Zollar’s Shelter is a passionate statement about the physical and emotional deprivation of homeless people. This all female cast is set to an inventive score which incorporates drumming by Junior “Gabu” Wedderburn and poetry by Hattie Gossett and Laurie Carlos, Shelter delivers the compelling message that the poverty of individuals will inevitably lead to the destitution of all humanity.

Revelations

Using African-American spirituals, song-sermons, gospel songs and holy blues, Alvin Ailey’s masterpiece fervently explores the places of deepest grief and holiest joy in the soul. More than just a popular dance work, it has become a cultural treasure, beloved by generations of fans.
